CHICAGO — Fake it until you make it.
That’s apparently the motto Bears offensive coodriationot Luke Getsy is living by.
Rather than critique the play of Justin Fields, Getsy complimented his quarterback for “manning up and taking a leadership role” during a difficult start to the season and said that he feels “the lack of particular detail to a number of different situations” is keeping the offense from coming up with the explosive plays they need to be making.
“I think we’re in the process of building something special,” Getsy said, via Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re in the phase of it’s Week Three going into Week Four and we’re going on to find a way to attack Denver in a completely different way than we did Kansas City. . . . It’s a 17-week process. It is not a three-week process.”
Special?
The Bears are 27th in points scored, 29th in total yards, 31st in passing yards, 30th in sacks allowed, tied for 27th in giveaways and 25th in third-down conversion percentage. And quarterback Justin Fields is 30th in passer rating (67.7) through three games.
The issue with Getsy’s comments are that the Bears are not three weeks into their process. It’s year three for Justin Fields. You don’t just re-start the clock just because DJ Moore and Darnell Wright just showed up in the spring.
