NEW YORK — Brian Daboll is addressing Evan Neal’s comments.
The struggling right tackle went viral on social media after he blasted the Giants fanbase while speaking with NJ.com on Wednesday.
“Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep? The person that’s commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?”
“He was frustrated,” Daboll said before Thursday’s practice. “He made a poor choice, poor decision, poor comments. He acknowledged that and we’re moving on.”
Neal issued a written apology on social media hours after the comments. He also said he spoke with the team and apologized for the distraction.
“We spoke,” Daboll said. “I know that he was very remorseful and regretful for the comments that he made.”
The 23-year-old is ranked the No. 68 out of 71 offensive tackles by Pro Football Focus where his struggles were nationally highlighted on Monday against the Seahawks.
“You have to be resilient in this league,” Daboll said. “It’s a humbling league. Whether you are winning a few games and then lose a few games or you lose early, be consistent in your approach to handle things the right way. We had a slip-up there.”
Saquon Barkley, who also asked about Evan Neal’s comments about fans:
“The advice I would give to him and any other teammate is: Never pick a battle with the fans. You’re never gonna win that one. They’ve been here before us, and they’re gonna be here after us. That’s just the truth.”
