NEW YORK — Not only are the New York Giants a bad football team, but they are now an injured plagued team.

Daniel Jones’ availability for Sunday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills suddenly appears in serious jeopardy.

Jones “will not practice,” on Monday per Brian Daboll. Jones is currently being listed as day to day with a neck injury that the Giants head coach says is “sore.”

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (8) leaves the game with an injury against the Miami Dolphins during the second half of an NFL game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, October 8, 2023.

Daboll will not disclose the nature of the injury. When asked if there is concern it’s a long-term issue, he won’t say. When asked if he’s cleared for contact, he won’t say.

Gees, thanks.

It seems like the Giants are still waiting for the results of X-rays and scans, after the $40m quarterback suffered a neck injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins. He did not return to the game.

Jones had said on Tuesday that his goal was to play, but that the concern was “dealing with the contact.”

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll talks to reporters before mandatory minicamp at the Giants training center in East Rutherford on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

The 26-year-old joins a laundry list of players to not practicing on Wednesday.

Andrew Thomas (hamstring), TE Darren Waller (groin) Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), C John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), OL Matt Peart (shoulder), LB Micah McFadden (ankle) and Edge Azeez Ojulari (ankle).

In case you lost count, that is eight players, seven of whom are starters.

There is some good news. I guess.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who has missed three games with his high ankle sprain, will practice on Wednesday. Daboll said he expects Barkley to do more this week in the hopes to can play Sunday night.

The bottom line? The New York Giants season is over. And it’s only week 6.
