NEW YORK — New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor underwent surgery on his right elbow to remove a bone spur, the team announced on Wednesday.

A day later, we now know, Lindor played through the injury all season, reports @martinonyc

“Lindor first felt the effects of the bone spur in his right elbow during spring training. The discomfort lingered through the season, but he did not want to make it public, or stop playing.”

Lindor should only need a couple of months to recover, so he’ll be ready to go this spring. The procedure will be performed by Dr. David Altchek in New York City.

The 29-year-old played in 160 games this year and became the fourth player in Mets history to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases.

While the Mets were a major disappointment overall, Lindor looks likely to finish in the top 10 in MVP balloting for the fifth time in his career.

The decorated shortstop will be entering the third season of his 10-year, $341 million contract.
