(East Rutherford, NJ) – It doesn’t sound promising for Giants’ QB Daniel Jones in terms of him potentially suiting up to play this weekend against the Washington Commanders.

As the veteran QB recovers from a neck injury, he did get in a limited practice on Wednesday. But given Jones has a history of neck injuries – having missed multiple weeks in 2021 – it’s fair to wonder if this injury will keep him out for the long haul.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, right, sits with quarterback Tyrod Taylor (2) in the second half. The Seahawks defeat the Giants, 24-3, at MetLife Stadium on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, in East Rutherford.

Asked about that potential reality, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Jones season is “not over.” Expounding further on the QB’s condition, Daboll reported that Jones is “doing better. He’ll be out here (Wednesday) doing some stuff. See where we’re at.”

So, even if it’s Tyrod Taylor getting the start on Sunday, perhaps Jones can make it back sometime before November or even December. But what do Jones’ absence – and the team’s struggles – mean for the player who just signed a four-year $160 million contract? Nothing good, sadly.

In reality, Jones contract is a two-year, $80 million deal, in terms of what is guaranteed. The Giants structured the contract this way so they can get out from under it after next season. And with New York (at 1-5) trending toward picking in the top of the draft, GM Joe Schoen and co. may decide it’s time to select a new QB.

Jones has shown flashes during his time with New York, but he’s also struggled to stay healthy – and the team is by and large awful in nearly every aspect – so two years doesn’t figure to change much.

And so it goes for Giants fans. Mock draft anyone?
