PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles are making another splash.
General manager Howie Roseman has acquired safety Kevin Byard from the Titans in exchange for S Terrell Edmunds and draft picks, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
In addition to Edmunds the Eagles also traded away fifth and sixth round draft picks.
Byard, a two-time All-Pro selection, has 47 tackles and one fumble recovery in six games played this season, while earning a PFF coverage grade of 61.2.
On Saturday, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported Roseman wanted to add defensive backs, specifically a safety, before the NFL trade deadline on Oct. 31.
A few days later, Roseman swung a deal for one of the best safeties in the NFL.
It’s a massive upgrade to the Philly secondary, with the Eagles dealing with injuries to both their starting safeties. Reed Blankenship missed the team’s victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night with a ribs injury while Justin Evans is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Byard, 30, has never missed a game in eight seasons with the Titans. He will in all likelihood make his Eagles debut in Week 8 when they take on the Commanders.
