New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson (2) is shown after his team fell, 27-6 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

(Florham Park, NJ) – As the Jets lost on Monday Night Football to the LA Chargers, Gang Green’s defense continued to play at a high level.

Austin Ekeler failed to eclipse 100 yards rushing. Justin Herbert checked in at under 150 yards passing. Even star wide receiver Keenan Allen was largely held in check.

And yet, as has also been the norm for the Jets, the offense couldn’t muster enough to put up a W. Afterwards, members of the Jets offense summed up their feelings.

Running back Breece Hall: “We need to grow up. It sucks, bro. It’s true.” Other players have been left searching for answers, like WR Garrett Wilson – who was asked if the Jets are being outschemed: “I don’t know, man. I really don’t.”

QB Zach Wilson fumbled twice, bringing his season total to eight. But Robert Saleh isn’t sure what to make of the signal-caller’s performance to date: “I don’t know if you can say it’s a step back.” Overall, the coach was even more succinct: “Today was not good, obviously.”

Sometimes the quirky stats that can result from any given game are not so interesting. But this one from OptaSTATS seems noteworthy: prior to Monday night’s loss, no team in the Super Bowl era had ever collected five-plus sacks, held their opponent under 200 yards, and failed to allow any 25-yard plays – all while losing by at least 20.

The Jets came into the season with aspirations to reach the big game – but that was before Aaron Rodgers’ injury of course. Garrett Wilson posted a solid line, seven catches for 80 yards. But admits he saw Gang Green doing more: “not what I expected to do today.”

Perhaps for the Jets it’s all about holding on and stealing some wins via their dominant defense – while praying Rodgers can recover from his achilles earlier than previously thought.

He was once again spotted walking on the MetLife turf without the use of crutches. Jets fans need some semblance of hope.
