DALLAS — Could the rich get richer?
Maybe.
Shaq Leonard, formerly of the Colts, is visiting with the Cowboys on Tuesday.
The veteran linebacker was waived last week by Indianapolis, sending the four-time All-Pro to the waiver wire, where he cleared and landed in free agency with the ability to sign with any team he chooses.
“I don’t have anything to report on Shaq, but yes, definitely, there’s interest,” head coach Mike McCarthy said, per the Dallas Morning News.
A claim would have required a team to pay the remaining $6.1 million on his contract this season plus an average of $18.2 million for each of the subsequent three years then remaining on his contract if it chose to retain him.
Leonard would be a significant addition to an already-stout Dallas front seven and an Eagles defense that ranks as Pro Football Focus’ fifth best pass rush.
The 28-year-old had 65 tackles in nine starts before being released by the Colts this month.
He is also meeting with Eagles, 49ers and Seahawks.
