WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders search for a new head coach begins today.
Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reports the Commanders are interested in speaking with Jim Harbaugh about their head coaching vacancy.
“According to people from Harbaugh’s team, the appeals of the Commanders job are draft picks and projected salary-cap space,” Schultz writes.
Harbaugh is hours away from coaching Michigan in the College Football National Championship game, but according to Schultz, Commanders advisor Bob Myers (hired Monday morning) has already contacted his agent about an interview.
Despite his coaching success with the 49ers in which he went 44-19-1 and led them to an NFC championship, the decorated coach left the team due to differences with then GM Trent Baalke. Harbaugh was also suspended by the Big Ten earlier this season for a sign-stealing scandal – so he certainly comes with baggage.
The bottom line? His resume is too good not to get another shot in the NFL. In 17 seasons as a head coach at both the collegiate and NFL, Harbaugh has a career record of 161-65-1.
It’s simple math. He gives you a better chance to win football games.
Expect the Michigan head coach to draw a plethora of interest as the NFL offseason officially gets underway.
