NEW YORK — The New York Yankees reached a two-year, $37 million contract agreement with free-agent right-hander Marcus Stroman on Thursday night.

But, why is this unusual?

For starters, it’s reeks of desperation. After striking out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dylan Cease, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery GM Brian Cashman had to pivot.

So they ultimately decided they had to get on the board with another veteran starter they believed capable of 150 quality innings – and that was the New York native.

Stroman, 32, has become a household name in the industry but that’s included many questionable acts on social media which included a feud with Brian Cashman after the Yankees did not acquire him in 2019.

Cashman claimed that Stroman wasn’t a “difference-maker” and that he would have ended up in the Yankees’ bullpen that postseason.

Stroman responded by tweeting a graphic showing his numbers alongside that of the Yankees’ rotation writing “Straight cash homie”.

Cashman has since apologized for his comments of which Stroman did acknowledge:

“I was bitter for a bit but then he apologized… so we gucci.”

For now? The two appear to have put their differences behind them, as their is a much bigger goal in mind.

Winning.
