NEW YORK — Death, taxes and Patrick Mahomes ripping the Buffalo Bills’ hearts out.

After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Bills on Sunday 27-24, yet again, it put the cap on another season that ended in devastating fashion.

But speaking of disappointments – you have to mention Stefon Diggs. Four years after Diggs infamously stayed on the field to watch the Chiefs celebrate their AFC Championship win over the Bills in 2021 — nothing has changed. The Bills can’t get over the hump and their #1 receivers future is in jeopardy.

Diggs declined to talk to reporters after Buffalo’s loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, according to NFL Network. The report also noted Diggs did not speak to the media last week after Buffalo’s wild-card win over Pittsburgh.

The 30-year-old’s late-season decline was capped of with another underwhelming performance on Sunday. Diggs’ rough night (3 catches, 21 yards) only got worse when he failed to bring in a deep shot attempt that hit him in the hands on the Bills’ final drive.

With Diggs’ abysmal second half of the season, and previous reports about him being unhappy with the team, one may wonder if this was his final game in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs (14) can’t make the catch on this deep throw by Josh Allen.

Here’s the thing –  moving his contract will be difficult. In 2022, the Bills signed Diggs to a four-year extension worth $96 million. This season was actually the final of a six-year deal he signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018.

If the Bills were to trade Diggs before June 1, they would take on a dead cap hit of over $31 million. They can obviously trade Diggs after the deadline, but moving away their No. 1 receiver with almost no depth, especially when Gabe Davis is also a pending free agent – doesn’t seem sensible.

Regardless with Diggs having his worst season so far in Buffalo the star receiver presents an unique dilemma.

Bills Mafia has plenty of time to mull it over, yet again, though.
