(East Rutherford, NJ) – The rumor mill continues to swirl in terms of what the Giants could be looking to do in the NFL Draft, as they currently hold the #6 pick.
Most draft analysts expect Caleb Williams out of USC to be the first QB picked, with Drake Maye of UNC and Jordan Daniels of LSU expected to also be selected before the Giants are on the clock.
So who will be the 4th QB picked? And will the Giants be the team to select him? Some mock drafts expect Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is that guy.
And Giants insider Connor Hughes is fanning the flames behind the rumors linking him to New York.
“League sources spoke highly of McCarthy when polled by SNY,” Hughes reports. “One high-ranking executive said he’ll be a ‘better pro than college player.’ Another general manager said he has everything teams look for—size, athleticism, arm strength, accuracy, and playing in a pro-style offense.”
There have been other reports suggesting Denver Broncos’ head coach Sean Payton is a huge fan of McCarthy’s game. Vegas oddsmakers have put the Minnesota Vikings as the favorite to draft him. They’re currently slotted to pick at #11 overall, but also just recently acquired a second first round pick in a trade with the Houston Texans.
It’s possible the Vikings used that pick to move up and potentially pick McCarthy.
For sure, the Vikings are in the market for a young QB after veteran signal caller Kirk Cousins joined the Atlanta Falcons. At present, Sam Darnold is atop their depth chart at QB.
