The Florida Panthers have won the Stanley Cup Championship for the first time in the franchise’s 30-year history.

Florida defeated the Edmonton Oilers with a 2-1 Game 7 win on Monday at Amerant Bank Arena, to beat the Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, 4-3. The Panthers had taken an early 3-0 series lead, but the Oilers battled back to tie the series at 3-3, becoming the first team since 1945 to force a Game 7 after inching one game away from being shutout.

The Panthers’ Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart scored Florida’s two goals in their Game 7 victory, with strong defense and a timely performance from Sergei Bobrovsky, who ended the game with 22 saves.

The Panthers celebrated their first Stanley Cup on social media, simply exclaiming: ‘WE ARE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!”

Details of the Panther’s first-ever championship parade are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
