(East Rutherford, NJ) – The New York Giants took the win in their preseason opener, led by an unexpected running back who did it all.

Eric Gray is entering his second NFL season as the third running back on the Giants’ depth chart. He only rushed for 48 yards as a rookie in 2023, and although it’s only the preseason, matched that total on his longest rush last night.

The highlight of the game came early in the second quarter. A few plays following his 24-yard reception on third-and-long, Gray burst through the right side and sent a Lions’ defensive back sliding, taking it 48 yards to the house.

Gray capped off the Giants’ next drive, though much shorter this time, a one-yard rush for the final score of the game. He was also the game’s leading receiver, hauling in four catches for 46 yards.

Fellow backup Dante Miller also had a nice day, his 12 rushes for 63 yards led both teams in rushing.

New York’s defense allowed Detroit to cross midfield just three times, forcing an interception once and a turnover on downs twice.

The Giants will face the Texans for Week 2 of preseason play on Saturday, August 17th at 1:00 p.m. in Houston.
